Groups.io: Changelog
November 6, 2026
Group Settings
- NEW: Topic statuses applied to every topic in a group, so in a general group with one status such as #sold, every member who started a topic got a "Your topic is posted" email with a #sold link and a Set status button, even on a question. Group Settings has a new Topic Statuses section that explains what a topic status is, lists the group's statuses, and has two settings. Which topics can have a status? is either all topics, as before, or only topics with one of the hashtags you check, such as #forsale; topics that already have a status can still be changed or cleared, and moderators can set a status on any topic. Email topic starters a link to set the status turns the "Your topic is posted" email on or off; starters still have the Set status button when it's off. Existing groups keep all topics with the email on, so nothing changes until an owner changes these settings. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41511
- CHANGE: In group exports, the wiki was a single
wiki.jsonfile holding every page. Each wiki page, with its revisions, is now its own file in aWikifolder, named after the page's title (for exampleWiki/Home.json). The contents of each page's file are the same as that page's entry in the oldwiki.json. If you have scripts that readwiki.json, they will need to read the files in theWikifolder instead. - BUGFIX: Exporting a group with a large wiki or a long activity log could fail without the export ever arriving. The wiki and activity log were built up in full before being written to the export, and a wiki with many revisions of pages containing pasted images ran the export out of memory. Both are now written to the export a piece at a time, so these groups can be exported.
- BUGFIX: In a locked group, which shows no counts in its sidebar, the counts of unread messages, drafts and pending messages came back after moving to another page of the group. They now stay hidden.
- API NEW:
/updategroupacceptsstatus_scope(status_scope_allorstatus_scope_tagged),status_eligible_hashtags(hashtag IDs; a single empty value clears the selection, and leaving it out keeps it) andtopic_posted_notice. The group object returned by/getgroupand other endpoints includes the same three fields.

- BUGFIX: In dark mode, the box next to the group email address on the Settings page (showing "@groups.io") stayed light grey. It is now dark.

Group Settings
- CHANGE: After you submitted an Export Group Data request, the page showed only a confirmation box, and closing it left a blank page. You now return to the export form with the confirmation notice at the top, as on other pages, so you can start another export. The confirmation's close button was also missing its X. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41402
- BUGFIX: Clicking Export Group Data with nothing selected emailed you an empty zip file. It now asks you to select the data you want to export. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41402
- BUGFIX: Going to an Admin page from a link outside the sidebar, such as the Export button on the Topics or Messages page, highlighted it in the sidebar but left the Admin menu collapsed, so nothing looked selected. The sidebar now opens the menus around it. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41402
- BUGFIX: On the group Settings page and other group pages, pressing Enter in a text box saved the changes and showed "Your changes have been saved", but the text box still had its focus outline, so it looked like it was still being edited. After a successful save, focus now moves off the field. If the save fails, focus still stays on the field with the error. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41320

Group Settings
- BUGFIX: After renaming a group or subgroup in Settings, most of the sidebar links still used the old name and led to an error page. The page now fully reloads after a rename, so the sidebar uses the new name. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41321

Group Settings
- CHANGE: When deleting a group, subgroup, account, or wiki page, the Delete button could be clicked before I understand had been entered, or with text that didn't match (such as
I understand:with the colon copied from the prompt). The page then reloaded without deleting anything or explaining why. The Delete button now stays disabled until I understand is entered; capitalization and extra spaces don't matter. The prompt now reads "enter I understand below:", which keeps the colon away from the phrase. Also, pressing Enter in the I understand box on the account deletion page could switch your subscriptions to HTML Digest; it now presses the Delete button, and only once that button is enabled. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41270 - BUGFIX: On the create group and create subgroup pages, choosing private messages opened a confirmation dialog that differed from the one on a group's settings page: the Yes button had a minus icon, and the titles and wording varied. Clicking Yes also submitted the form immediately, which on the create subgroup page could create the subgroup before you'd finished filling it in. The dialogs now match the settings page, with a check mark on Yes, and clicking Yes only confirms your choice. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41285

- BUGFIX: Dismissing the private-archive confirmation could leave Visibility blank. Cancel, close, Escape, and backdrop dismissal now restore the previous selection; Yes retains the new selection. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41185
- CHANGE: The private-archive confirmation now uses public instead of open and a check-mark icon for Yes. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41185

Group Settings
- BUGFIX: On the Membership Defaults page, selecting Following Only did not enable the First Message Also and Auto Follow Replies checkboxes, and did not auto-check Auto Follow Replies, so those defaults could not be set. Also changed a leftover "thread" to "topic" in that page's help text and in the plain-text email footer. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41099
- BUGFIX: On the group Settings page, the Restricted Membership checkbox (and the Allow Sponsorships checkbox in the General section) rendered as bare, unstyled checkboxes next to their styled neighbors. Both now match the other checkboxes. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41098
- CHANGE: The "To help prevent spam, groups must have at least one of these options set" note sat in a grey footer at the bottom of the Group Type and Moderation section, where it was easy to miss and often required scrolling to see. It now appears as a highlighted note at the top of the section. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41098
- CHANGE: The Two-Factor Authentication Policy setting has moved from the General section of the Settings page into the Privacy section, which is now titled Privacy and Security. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41098
