Highlights
  • Searching a group's messages now also searches its wiki, files and calendar, with matching wiki pages, files and upcoming events shown alongside the messages.
  • Owners can limit topic statuses to topics with certain hashtags, such as #forsale, and turn off the "Your topic is posted" email, from a new Topic Statuses section in Group Settings.
  • The Pending Messages list now previews each message's body and attachments, says why it's pending and how much the sender has posted before, so moderators can decide without opening each one.
  • Feed, Your Groups, Your Calendar and the other account pages now load in place, as group pages already did, and a page that fails to load now says so instead of seeming to do nothing.
  • The Add Tags dialog opens with the subject's hashtags already checked, can remove hashtags as well as add them, and shows how many of the 5 allowed the topic has.
Messages & Topics
  • NEW: Searching a group's messages now also searches its wiki, files and calendar. On the first page of results, up to three matching wiki pages appear above the messages, and up to three matching files and upcoming events appear beside them, each section with a link to all of its matches. Only the sections you can see are searched. Filtering by hashtag, poster, date, No Replies Yet or a single topic searches messages only, and a line above the results says so, with a link to search everything.
  • BUGFIX: Email addresses in message bodies are masked in the web archive, but email addresses in subjects were shown in full on the Topics and Messages pages, topic and message pages, the group home page and the group's RSS feed. Subjects are now masked the same way as message bodies: always for people who aren't members, and for members too when the group's Email Address Visibility In Archive setting is to mask them. Emails sent to members are unchanged. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41516
Editor & Drafts
  • CHANGE: The editor's More options (…) button opened the extra formatting controls (fonts, sizes, styles, colors and the rest) in a pop-up that covered the top of the message and closed again as soon as you clicked another toolbar button or a link in the text, so heavy formatting meant reopening it over and over. On computers and tablets those controls are now a second toolbar row below the first. It stays open until you click More options again, and it no longer covers the text. Phones keep the pop-up. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41509
Hashtags
  • NEW: In the Gallery view of the Hashtags page, a hashtag whose topics expire now has a clock icon. Hover over it to see the duration. Hashtags that keep topics forever don't show the icon. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41510
  • NEW: The Hashtags page has a Topic Statuses button next to New Hashtag that opens the Topic Statuses section of Group Settings, for moderators who can change group settings. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41511
  • CHANGE: The icon for hashtags that only moderators can use is now a person with a shield instead of a "ban" sign, and it has a tooltip in both the Gallery and List views. Both views also show icons, with tooltips, for hashtags that lock topics and for hashtags whose messages are not emailed to the group. Moderators also see an icon for hashtags whose messages are sent as special notices. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41510
  • CHANGE: The Add Tags dialog now also removes hashtags: unchecking one and clicking Apply (formerly Add Hashtags) takes it off the end of the subject. A hashtag in the middle of the subject stays checked, because removing it would change the wording; edit the subject to take it out. The dialog also shows how many hashtags the topic has out of the limit of 5, and once you reach 5 the others can't be checked. Hashtags you typed that aren't in the list count too. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41508
  • CHANGE: On the Hashtags page, the Status badge on status hashtags was a pale blue that was hard to see, especially in the List view next to the blue Edit Tag button. It's now a solid green badge in both the Gallery and List views, with white text in light mode and dark text in dark mode. In the Gallery view it also has a white outline, so it stands out on green and teal hashtags. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41511
  • CHANGE: On the hashtag edit page, the Reply To setting was below Locked and Status. It's now between Replies Unmoderated and Locked, next to the other settings for how replies are handled.
  • CHANGE: The Status setting on the hashtag edit page now explains that Group Settings › Topic Statuses decides which topics offer Set status and whether starters are emailed, with a link there for moderators who can change group settings. When a group's first status is created, a message points to those settings. A hashtag checked in Topic Statuses to choose which topics offer Set status can't also be made a status; the edit page says to remove it from that selection first.
  • CHANGE: The Add Hashtags dialog, used when posting a new topic, editing a topic, editing a pending message and adding an event, listed status hashtags like any other hashtag, so there was no way to tell that #sold was a status or that it locks the topic. Status hashtags now show the same green Status badge as on the Hashtags page, with a lock icon when the status locks the topic. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41511
  • BUGFIX: The List view of the Hashtags page was meant to show each hashtag's color as a dot beside its name, but the dot had lost its styling and didn't appear. It is back, and matches the hashtag dots in the Topics and Messages filter. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41510
  • BUGFIX: Switching between the Gallery and List views of the Hashtags page sent you back to the first page and reset the sort order. You now stay on the same page with the same sort order. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41510
  • BUGFIX: On the Hashtags page, an alias showed its own duration and settings, which are ignored, instead of those of the hashtag it points to. It now shows the duration and settings of the hashtag it points to.
  • BUGFIX: Sorting the List view of the Hashtags page by Duration put hashtags in the order they were created instead of by duration. It now sorts from the shortest duration to Forever (or the reverse), with hashtags of the same duration in alphabetical order. An alias sorts by the duration of the hashtag it points to.
  • BUGFIX: The Add Tags dialog, used when posting a new topic, editing a topic, editing a pending message and adding an event, always opened with nothing checked, even when the subject already had some of the hashtags. Checking one of them added it to the subject a second time. The dialog now opens with the subject's hashtags already checked and never adds a hashtag twice. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41508
  • BUGFIX: On the New Topic page, adding a hashtag that has a footer more than once showed its footer more than once below the message, and removing the hashtag from the subject left its footer showing. The footer preview now shows each footer once, for the hashtags that are checked.
  • BUGFIX: In groups that let members create hashtags, the Create Hashtag page showed members every hashtag setting, and they could create a hashtag that was moderated, locked topics, expired topics, wasn't emailed to the group, was reserved for moderators or was a status. Members now only choose the new hashtag's name, description and color, and its other settings keep their defaults, as when a hashtag is created by using it in a subject. Moderators who can manage hashtags still see every setting. The same applies to /newhashtag in the API.
  • API CHANGE: /updatehashtag refuses markable for a hashtag selected in the group's status_eligible_hashtags, returning bad_request with markable conflicts with status_eligible.
Email & Delivery
  • CHANGE: The "Your topic is posted" email quoted the topic's subject without its hashtags, and its status links showed only the hashtag names. It now quotes the subject with its hashtags, as the group sees it (for example "FS: Lamp #free"), and shows each status hashtag's description beside its link when it has one, so a group can say what each status means. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41511
